Volunteerism
VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME!
Our volunteer program is flexible, varied and offers many rewarding benefits. From gaining valuable experience in the beginning stages of your employment, to making a positive contribution to our residents' lives, volunteers receive benefits that are intangible and immeasurable. Our volunteers give comfort and friendship which they receive back ten-fold. They put a smile on residents' faces and become the community, neighbor or friend that our residents had to leave behind.
As a volunteer, your duties will vary according to your interests and ability. You may visit or help transport our residents, assist in an activity, run simple programs, deliver mail, file, prepare activity items as needed or just take our residents outside during warm weather. Whether helping to finish a project, play music or a game or just brighten a person's day by stopping by to chat, your efforts will always be appreciated.
Scheduling for volunteers is flexible; however, we do prefer that a volunteer commits to at least one hour for each time they volunteer. Hours can start at 9:15 in the morning and run throughout the day and early evening. Our volunteers need to be at least 14 years of age and complete a Volunteer Application. To learn more about this exciting opportunity, please contact Kathleen Smola, Director of Therapeutic Recreation, at (860) 684-8712 or email her at Kathy.Smola @jmhosp.org.
