LEAVE A LEGACY

ohnson Health Network is a participant in Leave a Legacy Connecticut, a special initiative developed by the Connecticut Council for Philanthropy. This statewide public awareness effort is intended to encourage Connecticut residents to consider charitable giving through wills and estate plans. By doing so, individuals can ensure that their "legacy" will help to ensure the well-being of a cause they care about — now and forever.

Cyril and Julia C. Johnson left a legacy when they gave so generously to build and endow Johnson Memorial Hospital.

While many people tend to think that making lasting contributions such as this is only for the wealthy, this isn't necessarily the case. People from all walks of life have the ability to make gifts in their wills. In doing so, they make a tremendous difference not only in today's world, but in the world they leave behind. Leaving a legacy is simple. Below are a few examples of how you can make this happen:
  • Prepare a will.
  • Set aside a gift in your will for your favorite charity or the organizations that have made a difference in your life.
  • Purchase a new life insurance policy. Name your favorite charity as a beneficiary, or name the organization to which you want to leave a gift in your existing life insurance policy.
  • Remember your loved ones with a charitable gift — in their honor.
  • Name a charity as the beneficiary of your pension plan or IRA.
  • Discuss with your advisors or your favorite charities the tax advantages you can enjoy now by leaving a gift to a charity.
