JOHNSON OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AND ROUTINE IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM
lanning an international adventure? If so, you may be interested to learn about the International Travel and Routine Immunizations Program offered by Johnson Occupational Medicine Center (JOMC) of Enfield. This service provides immunization and
education to ensure the health of business travelers and others as they journey throughout the world. With routine updates from the Centers for Disease Control, the staff of JOMC has access to the most current information available for travelers.
Participants in the Travel and Routine Immunizations Program complete a questionnaire from which JOMC staff members develop a medical status report. This is used to identify health issues that have the potential to interfere with travel plans. Staff members also review participants' travel itineraries and, based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, provide necessary immunizations for each destination. Among factors that are considered are the entry and exit requirements of various countries and whether the person will be spending time in rural areas or cities. Immunizations are available for such diseases as cholera, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis and others.
Upon completion of the Travel and Routine Immunizations Program, participants receive a medical record of their travel shots and, if required, an International Certificate of Vaccination. In addition, JOMC staff members can supply letters of justification for any medications that participants must take with them on their travels. Various educational materials, featuring tips on safe, healthy travel, are also provided.
